Released across South India earlier this year (2004) 'Monalisa' - is a phenomenal success in Kannada and rewrote all box office records. Subsequently it was released into Telugu and also met with success.

Shyan is just out of college and wants to marry a girl with beautiful eyes, Monalisa (Sada), daughter of an NRI is US fits the bill perfectly. She spurns his love initially, but later accepts him. Mean while, she gets a message that her father is unwell and so she goes back to US. However, Dhyan gets a call from Monalisa's father, saying that she died in an accident. Heartbroken, Dhyan meets with an accident. Under pressure from his mother, he later marries Spandana (Sada), a look alike of Monalisa, but can not get over Monalisa. Gradually he accepts Spandana as his wife. At this juncture, Monalisa comes back and Spandana wants Dhyan to marry her. ACP Raveendra (Rangayana Raghu), Spandana's father, plans to kill Monalisa to save his daughter's marraige. The rest of the story is about whom Dyan prefers - Spandana or Monalisa?

Monalisa is a good entertainer. The first part is especially full of comedy and romance while the second half has lot of thrills and emotions. Sada of the superhit 'Jayam' fame has put in good performance in a double role. As Monalisa, she sizzles on screen. Dhyan is versatile and acts well. Look-alikes of Tenduljkar and Upendra create good comedy in the film. Valisha-Sandeep's music is good. Cinematographer Kishnakumar captures the locations of Thailand beautifully.
